On November 6, Dagestan State Medical University hosted the All-Russian scientific and practical conference with international participation «Innovative Technologies in Surgery», dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the birth of Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor Rashid Pashaevich Askerkhanov.

The grand opening of the conference began with the performance of the National Anthem of the Russian Federation and the Anthem of the Republic of Dagestan.

Visampasha Khanaliev, Rector of DSMU, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. He emphasized the significance of the event for the university and the entire medical community, noting R.P. Askerkhanov’s outstanding contribution to the development of surgical science and practice, as well as his role in educating talented doctors and scientists.

«Today’s conference is a tribute to Rashid Pashaevich, it is an opportunity to discuss topical issues of modern surgery, share experiences and determine prospects for further development,» Visampasha Khanaliev said.

Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Dagestan Zaur Askenderov addressed the participants of the conference with welcoming words. After Zaur Askenderov’s welcoming speech, a ceremony was held to award certificates of honor and commemorative watches to the People’s Assembly of the Republic of Dagestan for active cooperation with the DSMU, participation in the educational process, contribution to the development of science and the training of medical personnel. Distinguished guests of the conference received awards: Igor Zhbanov (MD, Professor, Head of the Department of Coronary Heart Disease Surgery at the Academician B.V. Petrovsky Russian Research Center for Surgery), Gennady Khubulava, Vladimir Porkhanov (Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chief Physician of the Scientific Research Institute — Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1 named after Professor S.V. Ochapovsky»), Yuri Belov, Eduard Charchyan (Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Department of Surgery of the Aorta and its Branches at the Academician B.V. Russian Scientific Surgery Center. Welcoming speeches were also made by Pathula Pathulaev, Yuri Belov, Badma Bashankaev, Valery Totikov, and Hamid Askerkhanov shared personal memories of his father. In addition, the conference participants were able to see welcome video messages from colleagues and relatives of Rashid Pashaevich Askerkhanov.

The scientific part of the plenary session began with a report by the head of the academic department of the Department of Faculty Surgery at DSMU, Zarema Kurbanova, on «The Surgical School and the scientific legacy of Rashid Pashaevich Askerkhanov.»

The plenary session was continued by Hamid Askerkhanov’s report «The R.P. Askerkhanov Medical Center is a continuation of the school of an outstanding scientist.»

A documentary film dedicated to the memory of Professor Rashid Pashaevich Askerkhanov was presented to the participants of the conference.

The conference featured presentations on topical surgical topics, including surgery of the aorta and its branches, methods of endovascular myocardial revascularization, coronary bypass surgery, minimally invasive surgery for chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities and pelvis, endovascular methods for restoring arterial blood flow and hybrid interventions.

The conference will continue its work on November 7.
