Conference ‘Topical issues of pulmonology’ dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Professor A.M. Masuev

On 20 September 2024, the Interregional Scientific and Practical Conference on Pulmonology ‘Topical Issues of Pulmonology’ was held in the auditorium of Dagestan State Medical University. The event was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Professor A.M. Masuev.

Rector of DSMU Visampasha Khanaliev addressed the audience with a welcoming speech: ‘Dear colleagues, today we are gathered here to honour the memory of Professor Askandar Masuevich Masuev, who left an indelible mark in the field of pulmonology. His contribution is invaluable: Professor Askandar Masuev was able to combine theoretical knowledge with practical aspects of medicine. His work has become an important reference point for new generations of doctors and scientists, continuing to inspire us for further research and development of science.

We, as students and followers of Prof Masuev, should be proud to continue his work. At our conference we will discuss the most important issues facing pulmonology today, and this is crucial for the further development of our field. Each of your opinions and suggestions during the discussions will be important and will contribute to the big picture.

I hope that all of you will be able to actively participate in the exchange of knowledge and experience. I wish everyone productive work and interesting discussions!’, — said V. Khanaliev.

Patkhula Pathulaev, Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Dagestan, also delivered words of welcome, emphasising the importance of cooperation and exchange of experience in the field of medicine. He spoke warmly about A. Masuev, noting his outstanding talent as a mentor and teacher who, despite all the difficulties, always looked for new ways to improve medical practice and education.

As the event continued, the children of his colleagues and close friends told about the outstanding doctor and scientist A. Masuev. Zaidin Dzhambulatov, Professor of Veterinary Medicine, Rector of the Dagestan State Agrarian University, and Ilyas Mamaev, Chairman of the Health, Labour and Social Policy Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Dagestan, shared their memories of Masuev, his tireless work and pursuit of knowledge, which became an example for many.

The report ‘About the teacher, mentor and colleague’, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding scientist, was delivered by S.G. Zagliev, Associate Professor of the Department of Hospital Therapy.

After a coffee break, the conference participants listened to interesting lectures: ‘Hypersensitivity pneumonitis: diversity of clinic, issues of therapy’ (K.A. Bolieva — Head of the Department of Pharmacology with Clinical Pharmacology, FSBEI VO SOGMA of the Ministry of Health of Russia, chief freelance pulmonologist, MH RNO-Alania, professor); ‘Lung damage in immuno-inflammatory lung diseases’ (A. K. Karibova — Head of the Rheumatology Department of the State Budgetary Institution of the Russian Federation ‘State Clinical Hospital’, Chief supernumerary rheumatologist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation); ‘Evolution in the treatment of severe bronchial asthma’ (K.A. Masuev — Head of the Department of Polyclinic Therapy, Chief supernumerary pulmonologist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation for the North Caucasus Federal District, Professor).

The conference ended with questions from the participants and debates.
