Day of the Botanical Garden of DSPU

30.04.2025

262

On 28 April 2025, an event dedicated to Botanical Garden Day was held in the Botanical Garden of Dagestan State Pedagogical University. It was organised by the environmental department of the Volunteer Centre of Dagestan State Medical University with the support of 20 activists.

Students, teachers and residents of the city plunged into the world of flora and fauna, learnt about rare plants listed in the Red Book, as well as observed rabbits living on the territory. A special interest was aroused by a tour of the greenhouse, where the participants saw tropical and subtropical plants, learnt about the peculiarities of their cultivation and their importance for the ecosystem.

The goals of the event were not only to familiarise visitors with the diversity of plant life, but also to remind them of the importance of nature conservation. ‘Every plant is a part of our common home and we should treat them with care,’ said the tour leader.

The programme included a tour of the garden with a story about rare plant species, an introduction to rabbits, which could be fed under the supervision of specialists, a visit to the greenhouse, where guests learned about the principles of exotic plant care, as well as an interactive quiz with prizes for the most active participants.

A particularly memorable moment was the demonstration of a unique collection of medicinal plants traditionally used in folk medicine in Dagestan. The visitors were able not only to see these plants, but also to learn about their healing properties and proper use.

The event was held in a warm atmosphere, and its participants expressed their desire to visit the Botanical Garden more often and participate in similar events. Many noted that such events help to take a new look at the world around us and realise their responsibility for its preservation.

‘Nature gives us not only beauty, but also invaluable knowledge,’ the organisers noted. After the official part, many guests stayed to informally discuss what they had heard, share their observations and even suggest ideas for future environmental projects.
