Today, May 7, a commemorative event was held at the obelisk commemorating the staff and students of the Dagestan State Medical University who did not return from the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War, and at the monument to doctors who died fighting the coronavirus pandemic. The event was attended by university administration, faculty, staff, and students of DSMU, as well as distinguished guests.

Addressing the gathering, Rector of Dagestan State Medical University, Visampasha Khanaliev, emphasized the unbreakable bond between generations: «Today we bow our heads before the heroism of our institute’s students and faculty who went to the front and never returned. Eternal glory to them. But time inexorably presents new challenges. Our students are fulfilling their duty today in the special military operation zone. And we must stand united in supporting the army, in supporting our country. This year has been declared the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, and events like these are the best proof that unity lives in our hearts. The medical school has always been and remains a breeding ground not only for professionals but also for true patriots. We bow deeply to our veterans and doctors who persevered during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we cherish the memory of those who are no longer with us.

Feizula Kahrimanov, Chairman of the Makhachkala City Council of Veterans, addressed the ceremony participants with a welcoming speech. He praised the long-standing work of the DSMU primary veterans organization to preserve historical memory and support the older generation. At the ceremony, Feizula Kahrimanov presented Isa Dzhavatkhanov, Chairman of the university’s primary veterans organization, with a diploma confirming the title of «Best Veterans Organization.»

A speech by Abdula Fataliev, a veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Czechoslovakia, People’s Hero of the Caucasus, and an employee of the DSMU Cultural Center, created a special atmosphere. He not only shared memories of the courage of soldiers of different generations but also recited a poem dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.

At the end of the ceremony, university students and staff laid fresh flowers at the obelisk to those who fell during the Great Patriotic War and at the monument to doctors who died from COVID-19.
