On 18 April 2025, a regional forum ‘With Heart Care’, organised by the Volunteer Centre of Dagestan State Medical University within the framework of the project ‘Healthy Hearts’ with the support of the Rosmolodezh.Grants 1 season competition was held.

The aim of the event was to conduct preventive examinations to detect and prevent cardiovascular diseases, to raise public awareness of heart pathologies, to analyse clinical cases from the practice of a cardiologist, to teach resuscitation skills in case of cardiac arrest, and to summarise the results of the project. 

At the first stage, all forum participants were given a preventive check-up at the Republican Centre for Public Health and Medical Prevention to identify risk factors for heart disease. Participants had their vital signs measured, auscultation, palpation, and swelling of the legs and ankles checked.

As part of the forum, health platforms were organised in schools of the republic to promote healthy lifestyles and inform the population about cardiovascular diseases.

The forum ended with a conference in the Biological Building of DSMU. Speakers were: Amurbek Kachabekov — vice-rector for public relations and social and educational work, Galina Magadova and Diana Panakhova — assistants of the Department of Faculty Therapy, Gulnara Rajabova — head of department at the Republican Centre for Public Health and Medical Prevention, Gunay Huseynova — 6th year student of the Pediatric Faculty, chairman of the Volunteer Centre of DSMU, Khadijat Mahmudova — 3rd year student of the Pediatric Faculty, first aid instructor.

‘Energy drinks, smoking, improper nutrition — all these lead to heart disease. In addition, cardiological pathologies can be caused by many interrelated factors,’ one of the speakers emphasised.

At the end of the discussion of the topics presented and issues raised, Gunay Huseynova — the author and head of the Healthy Hearts Project — summarised the results of the implementation and expressed her gratitude to all the specialists and volunteers who took part in the implementation. ‘We are sure that the project has become an important step in the formation of knowledge about cardiovascular diseases. The information obtained will help participants to realise the need for a healthy lifestyle and regular physical activity,’ she shared after the forum.
