Human papillomavirus-HPV: stop light for risk, green light for health

On 27 February 2025, in the lecture hall of the Morphology Building, activists of the Volunteer Centre of Dagestan State Medical University together with the Student Scientific Circle ‘Obstetrics and Gynecology’ held a seminar dedicated to the topical topic ‘Human Papilloma Virus’.

 Zukhra Abusueva, Professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Faculty of Medicine, spoke at the event. She spoke in detail about what the human papillomavirus is, what impact it has on health, what diagnostic methods are used, whether there is an effective treatment for infection, as well as modern methods of specific prevention.

The human papillomavirus, discovered less than twenty years ago, has drawn the world’s attention to the prevention of cervical cancer. However, there are still many myths surrounding this topic. During the seminar, experts dispelled common misconceptions and gave clear recommendations.

Despite the complexity and sensitivity of the topic, the event left a positive impression on the students. The participants realised the importance of regular diagnostics to prevent the development of serious diseases.

The human papillomavirus, discovered less than twenty years ago, was named as the most important virus for prevention, including vaccination and timely screening. Experts emphasised that early detection of the virus and precancerous lesions significantly increases the chances of successful treatment. The students also discussed the role of education in raising public awareness about the problem.

The event was an important step in the fight against the spread of the human papillomavirus and its consequences, and also contributed to the formation of a responsible approach to prevention and diagnosis among future medical professionals.
