On Friday, September 19, Mikhail Murashko, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, gave an open lecture on «Safe medical care for every newborn and every child», dedicated to World Patient Safety Day.

The online lecture was joined by staff and students of Dagestan State Medical University.

During his speech, the Minister highlighted key areas of state policy in the field of maternal and child health, modern safety standards and basic principles of medical care for young patients.

Mikhail Murashko noted that ensuring the highest standards of safety at all stages of providing medical care to the most vulnerable patients, children, from the first minutes of life, should be a global priority in the field of healthcare..

«It is necessary to create a system in which the patient will be provided with safe medical care, regardless of his place of residence and which medical organization he applied to. We consider the formation of a safety culture based on real clinical data and scientific research to be a key point in ensuring patient safety,» Mikhail Albertovich emphasized.

The Minister paid special attention to the development of the country’s pediatric service. It was noted that the country has one of the lowest infant mortality rates in its history. This was facilitated by the implementation of national projects, the construction of perinatal centers and the modernization of children’s hospitals.

The Minister elaborated on the key components of safety, among which he outlined the creation of an enabling environment, drug safety, patient identification and effective communication. He noted that for newborns, identification should be especially careful, as they belong to the most vulnerable group of patients.

In conclusion, the minister addressed future doctors, noting that people are the main resource of the healthcare system.

«No matter what hospitals we build, no matter what high—tech products and equipment we equip, the most important resource is people, our employees. The involvement of all employees, teamwork, mentoring, and safe behavior are what ensure our success. Only together we are safe,» he concluded.
