The 1st Intra-University Psychiatry Olympiad «Kratos Mentis»
24.06.2026
60
On May 7, the Scientific and Educational Innovation Center of the DSMU hosted the first intra-university Psychiatry Olympiad «Kratos Mentis.» «Power over the Mind» is the translation of the title, and frankly, it couldn’t be more accurate. Psychiatry is a unique discipline. It requires not just knowledge, but also feeling, grasping nuances, and flexible thinking. That’s why the Olympiad isn’t just a textbook test; it’s a test of your thinking. And the participants clearly understood this.
The competition consisted of three stages, each challenging in its own way. The brain ring set the tone for the entire day—fast-paced, exciting, and with no time for reflection. The teams literally competed not only in knowledge but also in teamwork: it was crucial to think together, not individually.
«Jeopardy» required a different approach—strategy. Choose a topic, assess the risk, and stay focused on a difficult question. It was at this stage that it often became clear who had prepared seriously and who was just hoping for luck.
The «Captains’ Competition» was the final and, perhaps, most atmospheric moment of the Olympiad. Without a team behind you, facing a question one-on-one—it was a completely different feeling. The captains handled it well.
The participants were judged by experienced faculty members of the Department of Psychiatry. The jury and presidium included: Department Head and Vice Rector for Research Naida Mollaeva; Department Head Leyla Gammatsayeva; and Department Assistants Patimat Shakhrutdinova, Salamat Shamsieva, and Elnara Alibekova.
Based on the results of all stages, the winners were: 1st place—»Dysphoria,» 2nd place—»Insight,» and 3rd place—»Euphoria.»
Congratulations to the winners—well-deserved and heartfelt. And a special thank you to everyone who participated: for coming, preparing, and daring to compete. Events like these are what make student life truly special.
A special thank you to the department’s faculty—for not just judging, but for creating an atmosphere in which we thought and fought to the end.
It was no coincidence that the Olympiad was held at such a high level. Behind the scenes of any good event, there are always people who made it all happen. This time, those people were the trade union committee and the student section of DSMU—the organization was structured with precision, care, and genuine warmth. It was clear that every detail had been thought through, allowing the participants to focus on what was most important—the Olympiad itself. Special mention goes to Rector Visampasha Khanaliev for his ongoing support of the events, and to the Chairman of the DSMU Trade Union Committee, Ruslan Shakhbanov—his support in organizing the event was invaluable. It is this kind of involvement from leadership that gives student initiatives the opportunity to grow and become more than just a one-time event.
