On April 25, the annual Olympiad was held at the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology, dedicated to a significant date — the 90th anniversary of the department. On this day, all teams not only demonstrated deep knowledge of the subject, but also performed truly worthy.

The participation of English-speaking students gave a special flavor to the event. They made a healthy competition to our guys, were able to give them a head start and generously shared their own experience.

The performances were evaluated by a competent jury, which included almost all the associate professors of the department, headed by the head Salidat Omarova.

The Olympiad itself included four exciting stages: «Team Presentation,» «Blitz Survey,» «Investigator» and «Own Game.»

At the first stage, the participants creatively approached the story about themselves, using both face-to-face performances and pre-prepared video images. During the «Blitz Poll,» the teams had to answer a series of questions, where each correct answer brought the coveted score.

The real test of the mind was the third stage — «Investigator.» Here, students were required not only fundamental knowledge of microbiology, but also critical thinking skills, non-standard imagination and iron logic. After such an intellectual tension, there was a pause: during a coffee break, the guys were able to take a breath, relax and communicate in an informal setting.

The final point was «Own Game,» which took place in the best traditions of the famous television program. Participants answered difficult questions and along the way got acquainted with the rich history of the department, having received a lot of pleasure from the game.

By the sum of the points of all stages, the three leaders were determined: 1st place — the team «Immunitas Invicta»; 2nd place — the team «Pure Culture»; 3rd place — the team «Bacterial Alliance.»

A pleasant bonus for the winners was the exemption from the microbiology exam, which was personally announced by Salidat Magomedovna. The department also expressed gratitude to all other teams, promising to support students and remember the valuable baggage of knowledge that they demonstrated at the Olympics.
