The V Intrauniversity Student Olympiad in pediatric surgery dedicated to the 90^th anniversary of   Dagestan State Medical University was held on  October 27.

     Seven teams including students of pediatric and medical faculties took part in the event.

    Acting Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Razin Ragimov made a welcoming speech on behalf of the Acting Rector of DSMU Visampashi Khanaliev  at the opening of the Olympiad : «Our university has always paid great attention to the practical training of students. And it always  complied with the requirements of the time. Today, the Olympiad in pediatric surgery has risen to a new level: it includes tasks and stages of pediatric and pediatric infectious profile. «And remember, the main thing is not victory, the main thing is desire, perseverance and the goal that you have set yourself,» R. Ragimov said.

    Also, the participants of the Olympiad were addressed by the chief physician of  Children’s Republican Clinical Hospital named after N.M. Kuraev Bashir Makhachev, head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery Fatima Meilanova, head of the Department of Faculty and Hospital Pediatrics Alaudin Aliskandiev and head of the Department of Propaedeutics of Children’s Diseases with a course of children’s infections Lala Ulukhanova.

   Various tasks were prepared as part of the Olympiad. The participants had to go through 5 stages. Thus, the main program of the Olympiad began with the «Break-ring» competition where each team had to answer 30 questions from different sections of pediatric surgery, pediatrics and pediatric infections.

   Then  followed competitions, allowing to develop the clinical thinking of young specialists: knowledge of surgical instruments, desmurgy, surgical manipulations, intubation.

     At the same time, each member of the team participated in competitions by lot distribution. The purpose of this form of conducting is the versatile development of participants, an attempt to show the versatility of these specialties, which will help students in choosing a future specialization.

    The children were evaluated by respected experts: Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery F.V. Meilanova, associate Professors of the Department of Pediatric Surgery – A.D. Abdurakhmanov and V.T. Ashurbekov, assistants of the Department of Pediatric Surgery – G.N. Tolboeva and Z.N. Murtuzaliev; Head of the Department of Faculty and Hospital Pediatrics A.M. Aliskandiev, assistant of the Department of Faculty and Hospital Pediatrics M.T. Abdulmuslimov, Head of the Department of Pediatrics of the Faculty of Advanced Training M.I. Israilov, Head of the Department of Propaedeutics of Children’s diseases with the course of children’s infections L.U. Ulukhanov.

        At each stage, the participants of all teams brilliantly coped with the competitive tasks, showing their skills and demonstrating possession of practical skills and knowledge of the theoretical foundations of surgery at the highest level. And, of course, there were the best among the best. So, in the team competition, the places were distributed as follows: first place was taken by the team of the pediatric faculty «White coats»; second place by  the team of the pediatric faculty «Sharp caps»; third place by the team of the medical faculty «Corde pure».

     The teams that won prizes received diplomas and memorable gifts.
