The V Intramural Student Olympiad in Surgery, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of Professor A.O. Makhachev, organized by the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy of DSMU and the Student Scientific Circle «Corde Puro» was held in the Morphological Building of DSMU in January 29 and 30, 2022.  

Students of 3-6 courses of pediatric and medical faculties took part in the Olympiad. About 6 teams competed.

Acting Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Razin Ragimov addressed the participants of the Olympiad with a welcoming speech on behalf of Acting Rector V. Yu. Khanaliev. He admitted that he was very glad to see so many students and expressed the hope that all of them would become skilled surgeons and outstanding doctors and scientists in the future.

Head of the Department of operative surgery with topographic anatomy of DSMU, noted that Abdulmalik Osmanovich is a man of great service. «Surgeon, scientist, teacher, innovator, brilliant clinician and educator. His life path from a student to a great scientist, a professional doctor is an example of perseverance, hard work and organizational skills,» M. Akhmadudinov shared.

The event was attended by A. Makhachev’s son, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Director of the Dagestan Center of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery Osman Makhachev. He spoke about his father as a man who always achieves his goals. «I am glad that my father’s fruitful work has not gone unnoticed by the country and the republic,» he said.

The guests and participants of the event were also greeted by Ahmed Khalilov, Head of the Department of Thoracic Surgery of  RCH. He thanked the members of the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy under the leadership of Ilyas Kiblaev for organizing the Olympiad and noted that such events are very important in choosing a future profession, in preparing students for the state final certification and accreditation of specialists and wished success to the participants.

The first day of the Olympiad was held in 9 stages. This is a theoretical competition, a competition «surgical access», knowledge of surgical instruments, knitting surgical knots, a competition «Desmurgy», a competition «Tendon suture», vascular surgery, theory in neurosurgery and plastic surgery. On the second day, the participants competed in 4 different competitions, such as abdominal surgery, heart transplantation, thoracic surgery, urology. Also, a «Creative competition» was introduced, as close as possible to the surgical theme. The participants of the Olympiad showed a high level of theoretical knowledge, as well as successfully demonstrated their practical skills.

According to the results of the Olympiad, winners and prize-winners were determined in each nomination. According to the results of all competitions, the 1st place was taken by the team  «On the verge», the 2nd place — «Not by force, but by art», the 3rd place — «Scalpel».
